Look what we found!!!
Here's a vintage program from the original New York production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's musical, The King and I.
Gertrude Lawrence received top billing as the only star in this production, playing the role of Anna (later played by Deborah Kerr in the movie version), while the relative newcomer Yul Brynner was listed first among the supporting cast. Brynner had previously appeared on the New York stage only once, as the male lead opposite Mary Martin in Lute Song.
This program has been stored for several decades and is in fairly good condition for its age. It's a bit musty and has some age spots on the front and back covers, a tear at the lower left front corner (see arrow in image), and wear and small tears at the edges and corners of the pages. Except for the centerfold, which is detached but intact, all the pages are firmly stapled, clean and without markings.
